Fluid stillage: what is it?

Borstilla for agricultural use is an organic fertilizer of natural origin, a by-product of the processing of sugar beet, sugar cane and other industrial fruit processing.

The most common products are fluid beet stillage and fluid sugarcane stillage.

What is the stillage used for?

Used as fertilizer in agriculture, it provides nitrogen and potassium and has an acidifying action in the circulating solution. In fact, it provides organic material that will then enrich the humus content of the soil. The most interesting and useful feature of this product is its sugar content. The microbial and bacterial flora, the entire rhizosphere, readily uses the sugars present in the stillage, nourishing and multiplying so as to enhance their activity of fixing and conveying nutrients to the roots and stimulating the development of the root hair.

The supply of macroelements and microelements of stillage is rather low and in any case insufficient to nourish a crop.

It is almost free of phosphorus, which is instead a fundamental element for plant nutrition. For this reason, the combination of chemical fertilizers is necessary. The synergy that is created stimulates and enhances the absorption of nutrients, by means of fungi and bacteria, creating a nutritional balance that ensures the plant the energy necessary for production. It also stimulates the creation of phytoalexins that enhance self-defense. The result of this process is a plant capable of sustaining the production effort and defending itself from harmful abiotic agents. An important and precious use of stillage is the combination with products of natural origin used for defense, fungi and bacteria of the rhizosphere such as trichoderma, beauveria, mycorrhizae and all that infinite army of fungi and bacteria that populate the biota.

Borstilla improves the characteristics of plants:

It helps the plant in the transplant phase as it stimulates the last branches of the root and consequently a rapid release of the same; it improves the circulating solution, therefore the ability of the roots to absorb the nutrients dissolved in the water.
It improves the biological balance in the soil, because it is food for microflora and microfauna.
It provides amino acids of plant origin that are quickly recognizable and usable for plants.
It can be used in a mixture with other nutrients to improve its assimilation.

Fluid stillage dosage

Our technicians recommend the use of stillage to prepare ground mycorrhization interventions. In fact, as we have said, mycorrhizae feed on the sugars of which the stillage is very rich.

The preparation of this mixture should preferably be carried out 24 hours before administration, in order to activate the consortium of fungi and bacteria which, once introduced into the soil, will act and conquer vital space to the detriment of harmful fungi and bacteria, thus establishing a balance useful for the life of the cultivated plants.

The price of fluid stillage varies according to the composition. Normally it is between 1 and 2 euros per kg.

How to dilute stillage? There are many fertilizers based on fluid stillage on the market. There is no equal dose for all products. It is always advisable to stick to the doses indicated on the label of the product purchased.
